The Ominous Comma , much to my surprise, has crowned Scrambled Toast smartly on its head with the highly sought after and acclaimed Thinking Blogger Award.
This is the first--and in all likelihood last--honor ever bestowed upon this modest blog. At least for the remainder of the week I shall remain eternally grateful.
And humbled. The Ominous Comma truly combines humor with meaning. Other Thinking Blogger recipients such as Chogeys United, It Came From Allen's Brain, Mattress Police, and Life in M-Town, likewise fuse lighthearted style with heavy handed intellectuality with a perception and wit worthy of Oscar Wilde, Winston Churchill, and perhaps even Yogi Berra. Kudos all 'round.
In my case, however, I only pretend to mix humor with meaning. Truth be told, I have always aspired to be a pseudo-intellectual, which Wikipedia defines thus--
Pseudointellectual is a pejorative term used to describe someone who engages in false intellectualism or is intellectually dishonest. The term is often, though not always, used to describe one who regularly critiques the work of professionals, while lacking the requisite background knowledge and experience to have an informed opinion. Synonyms for this character include sophist, and in medical terms, mountebank and quack.
Yes, when other boys aspired to be a fireman or The Man from U.N.C.L.E., I dreamed that someday, somehow, I could exert enormous influence on people's thought without troubling myself to know what I was talking about. Over the years, experience has taught me many lessons, many truths. I have tried diligently to remove them from my writing and from my memory. The fact I have received this award suggests my efforts have fallen short.
I remained convinced that pseudointellecutality is the key to success. People who know what they're talking about toil anonymously and thanklessly in dingy libraries and underfunded laboratories. It's the mountebanks, the quacks and the sophists that advise presidents, win hearts and minds, and sell gobs of diet pills.
That's for me!

Congrats Brad! Now that your all brainy and intellectualish, does that mean you have to switch to Scrambled Wheat Toast? Next thing you know, you'll be drink soy lattes and misquoting Keats.
Congratulations, Brad---you deserve it! Many kudos, Olivia
Thanks Chis, Olivia. I love the idea of misquoting Keats...why stop there? :)
