Words for Nerds--Palaver

To tell the truth, I'm not much fond of palaver. Do you know what palaver is?

A. Idle chatter.
B. A Hungarian stew made with rabbit and radishes.
C. Stagnant water.
D. Coarse, gritty soap.
E. A pail full of lather.

Of course, palaver is idle chatter, usually in the sense of chatter calculated to flatter or charm someone.

Game show hosts and TV personalities excel in the art of palaver. Richard Dawson, longtime host of Family Feud, oozes palaver. Bob Barker is swimming in it.

Lately, however, the trend has done a 180. Anti-palaver is in, as any American Idol fan knows.
