Words for Nerds--Insuperable

Insuperable is handy word that really doesn't get enough play time. What does insuperable mean?

A. Incapable of eating supper.
B. Incapable of being overcome.
C. Incapable of remaining calm.
D. Incapable of being separated.
E. Incapable of being supported.

Well, at least we know insuperable has something to do with incapability ... to zero in, let's use it in context---

The arguments against American oil dependence are insuperable.

The obstacles to peace in the Middle East appear to be insuperable.

The odds against the Chicago Cubs winning a World Series are insuperable.

Yes, insuperable means impossible to overcome or insurmountable. The last time the Chicago Cubs won a World Series was in 1908. That was also about the same time insuperable was commonly used in conversation. Both the team and the Cubs need to make a comeback.
